This Sunday, February 2: In time for the Super Bowl, Tamale Benefit for our neighbors in need

by Daphne Vernon
Once a year, the California Homemakers Association (CHA) puts on an all-volunteer tamale fundraiser in support of the members they serve. Starting this Sunday afternoon, we are making our commercial kitchen available free of charge for two and a half days of tamale production.
Why are we supporting their efforts and what does CHA do for their members? CHA writes,
"Every winter CHA's membership of domestic workers, in-home caregivers and other low-income service workers faces the “choice” of whether to heat our homes or feed our children. CHA’s members who are agricultural workers, landscapers, tourism and other seasonal workers lose weeks or months of work this time of year. In Sonoma County 36% of households are unable to afford all their basic necessities, according to the North Bay Business Journal. Members aid fellow members through free-of-charge budget-saving distributions of nutritious food, warm winter clothing and blankets, utility bill advocacy, and 'Operation Winter Watch' program, checking on shut-in, elderly or disabled members."
There are two ways to order your delicious tamales to enjoy on Super Bowl Sunday or any day you would like. They will be frozen right after they are made so you can have them anytime.
- Order tamales this Sunday at Incarnation after the 10:15 service in Farlander Hall. The volunteers will let you know when the orders will be available at Incarnation for pick up.
- Order tamales by calling CHA at (707) 591-9573. Let them know you are from Incarnation and they will be made available for pick up here as well.
Available in any combination by the half dozen are:
Chicken in Red Sauce (mild), Chile & Cheese (spicy), Bean & Veggie (vegan). Suggested Donation: $20 per dozen, $10.00 per half-dozen (pay by check or cash only).
